Baskets Full of Warm Wishes Cards

Here is the third yarn / knitting themed card that I came up with last week.  My friend Kim Apel and I have been working over the last few weeks on creating cards to sell at craft shows.  You can check out her latest card here - super cute!!!

These cards are going to be sold at the Stitches Midwest craft show on August 8th - 10th by my friend Bobbi along with her beautiful handspun yarn.  Check out her Facebook Page and Etsy Shop to see what she's been working on for the show :)

Anyways, here's what I came up with:

Super simple, but I really liked the way it turned out.  I used a retired Stampin' Up Baskets of Fun for this card.  Not only did it have a really cute stamp of a basket and yarn balls, but there was a also a greeting that went along with it!  I made these cards in yellow, purple, pink, and blue and used watercolors to color in the balls of yarn and little basket.  It was a great excuse to use some of the pastel colors that I seem to have a lot of in my paper stash!

With this card, I also used a new technique with the Sew Stamper tool from We R Memory Keepers to create the stitching on the bottom.  Kim and I came across this at Michaels the other day when we were looking for yarn related stamps, etc.  It was the perfect touch to add to the yarn cards!!!  The tool also has tons of extensions you can by that make different designs.  It took a little while to get use to, mostly being able to get the lines straight.  I ended up lining up a ruler at the bottom of the card to be able to get a straight edge.  I love cross-stitching so these were super fun to make!

Check out how it turned out:

  • Stamps: basket full of fun (retired)
  • Other: cardstock, ink, sew stamper and accessories, watercolors, string

Birthday Partying Minion Card

So, I got a request yesterday for a minion card for a 21st birthday.  Here's what I came up with:

They are currently available through my etsy shop here along with the original minion card.

I was really excited with how it turned out!  I used the regular template for the minion card (blog post here - also includes a tutorial on how to make the minions using the owl punch from Stampin' Up).  I moved the placement of "happy birthday" around and used little letter stamps to write the name on the bottom.

Since the card was for a 21st birthday, I stamped some fun drinks using the happy hour stamp set and added some rhinestones.  To make the drinks, I first stamped the image with black ink and them stamped another of the same image with blue ink.  I then cut out the blue drink part out and glued it to the original black image.  I used this same technique a few weeks ago with my Cocktail Cheers Cards.  Turned out really cute and it was a lot easier then coloring in all of the little stamps seperately/

Here's some close-ups of the minions:

Materials Used:
  • Stamps: happy hour, small letter stamps
  • Other: owl punch, cardstock, happy birthday embossing folder, ribbon, thin black marker, googly eyes, rhinestones

Yarn Basket Cards

I've been super busy over the last couple of weeks working with Kim Apel on yarn / knitting themed cards that a co-worker of mine is going to be selling on August 8-10th at Stitches Midwest along with her hand spun yarn.  You can checkout her facebook page or shop on etsy.

I made four sets of cards and am going to be featuring one each day this week.  For the first one, I used a retired Stampin' Up set called "Basket Full of Fun."  It has a bunch of different things you can put in a basket or bucket and it was perfect for making yarn-themed cards!  I first stamped the yarn onto white card stock and colored it in using watercolors.  I then stamped the basket on to brown paper, cut it out, and glued it slightly below the yarn balls.  The rest of the card consists of different layers of the color (I used red, blue, orange, and yellow), the chevron textured embossing folder, and some colored string to tie it all together.

Cute huh?  I love the little needles and string that stick out of the yarn!

Here's a preview of what the other three colors look like:

Materials Used:
  • Stamps: basket full of fun
  • Stampin' Up: chevron textured embossing folder
  • Other: colored cardstock, multicolored string (I bought a big pack at joann's for a couple of dollars), water colors

Minion, Minions, and More Minions!

With the new "Despicable Me" movie coming out (which was awesome, by the way!) I've had a ton of requests for my minion cards!  I'm currently working on a large order for birthday party invitations...which means that I've had to make lots and lots of minions in the past few days.  Thanks to my mom and Samantha Hansen for helping me assemble the minions!  Here's about half of them:

You can view my original blog post here.  If you're interested in making your own minions, I also have a tutorial on the blog post.  The minions are made using the stampin' up owl punch.

I have currently reached my monthly sales limit on ebay, but I still have some for sale at my etsy shop.  Get them while you can, they're going fast!  I'm also happy to do customized orders...just send me a message :)
